History of the Aruba Ariba
The Aruba Ariba, originally named the Ariba Aruba, was first created on July 1st, 1963 at the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino by bartender Juan “Jocky” Tromp. Today, over 60 years later, it is still celebrated every year on July 1st at the Hilton Resort.

The Aruba Ariba Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients for an Aruba Ariba
There are a number of ingredients you’ll need for an Aruba Ariba, including a variety of liquors and juices. Once you’ve found them all – hop to “How to Make the Aruba Ariba” below and get ready to enjoy the national cocktail of Aruba!
- 1/2 ounce of vodka
- 1/2 ounce of white rum (Bacardi Superior will work)
- 1/8 ounce of Coecoei* – a local Aruban liquor
- 1/8 ounce of crème de banana
- 1/2 cup (4 ounces) of orange juice
- 1/4 cup (2 ounces) of pineapple juice
- 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice
- Crushed ice
Garnish
- 1/4 ounce of grenadine syrup
- 1/4 ounce of Grand Marnier
- 1 maraschino cherry
- 1 orange slice
*If you do not have any Coecoei on hand… it’s time to head back to Aruba and replenish! Or, if you must, you can substitute with Agave Nectar, Passion Fruit Nectar, or even Cherry Brandy. They’ll provide a similar taste to Coecoei. Another alternative is to double the crème de banana to 1/4 ounce.
How to Make an Aruba Ariba Cocktail
While cocktails are pretty simple to make, we want to make sure you nail it on the first try. Here’s the step-by-step instructions to make the Aruba Ariba perfect each and every time.
- Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker.
- Shake vigorously for a minute to combine and chill the ingredients.
- Pour the drink into a tall cocktail glass.
- Top with a splash of Grenadine and a splash of Grand Marnier.
- Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.
