1. Relax at Eagle Beach

One of the most famous beaches in Aruba is Eagle Beach. It’s often ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world due to its wide stretch of soft, white sand and clear turquoise waters. It’s a great spot for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the amazing sunsets the island has to offer. Even if you’re not staying near Eagle Beach, it deserves a visit during your trip.

2. Swim at Baby Beach

Located on the southeastern part of the island, Baby Beach is named for its calm, shallow waters. It’s the perfect beach for families with young children. It’s also a great place for beginner snorkelers. Take your own snorkel gear and head out to see plenty of colorful fish close to shore.

3. Snorkel at Arashi Beach

If you’re looking for a quieter and less crowded beach, you need to try Arashi Beach. It’s located near the California Lighthouse and is an excellent spot for snorkeling. It offers clear water and some reefs that are home to a wide diversity of marine life. The beach is also great for swimming and relaxing if that’s what you’re looking for.

4. Walk along Palm Beach

The busiest beach in Aruba is Palm Beach. It’s known for its high-rise hotels, which bring with it all the things a tourist could possibly want, be it beach bars, water activities, or simply sight seeing the many resorts on the island. I personally recommend visiting Palm Beach not to really relax along the beach but to take a walk and see what all is available on the island. Maybe even scope out where you’ll stay in Aruba next trip!

5. Snorkel at Mangel Halto

For those who want to explore under the sea, Mangel Halto is one of your must visit beaches. It is a secluded spot known for its excellent snorkeling conditions. The clear waters attract all kinds of colorful fish and are home to some cool coral formations. The mangroves also provide a great backdrop for snorkeling.

6. Explore Malmok Beach

If you are still up for more snorkeling beaches in Aruba, head to Malmok Beach. The beach here is a bit rocky (bring water shoes), but the underwater experience more than makes up for it. You’ll find plenty of fish and coral just offshore.

7. Swim with Turtles at Tres Trapi

Last but not least is Tres Trapi, a small, rocky beach known for its clear waters and sea turtles. Tres Trapi, meaning “Three Steps,” is a favorite spot for snorkeling and swimming with turtles right off the shore. Just head straight out to where the sea grass starts for your best chances of finding the famous Tres Trapi turtles.

When in Aruba, you’ll want to explore the key landmarks on the island, and best of all, many are free to visit. To get to them, I recommend either renting a car or taking an island tour. You can however get to many of them using the local bus if you’re on a budget.

8. Visit the California Lighthouse

A can’t miss landmark in Aruba is the California Lighthouse. This beautiful lighthouse provides stunning panoramic views of the island and the surrounding coastline. It’s an iconic landmark named after the ship California, which wrecked nearby in the early 1900s. The site is especially beautiful at sunset. While it is free to visit the outside of the lighthouse, there is a $5 entrance fee if you want to climb to the top.

9. Reflect at Alto Vista Chapel

One of the most iconic landmarks you must visit is Alto Vista Chapel. Built in 1750, Alto Vista Chapel is the island’s first Catholic church. The small, serene chapel is surrounded by peaceful countryside and offers beautiful views of the island. It’s a great spot for reflection.

10. Explore the Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins

While the Bushiribana Gold Mill is now just ruins, you will want to visit the remnants of this 19th-century gold processing mill. Here you can explore the ruins and learn about Aruba’s gold mining history while enjoying the scenic coastal views – for free!

Really, the only exception is Arikok National Park which has an entrance fee, but even then, once you pay the fee there is a whole host of natural attractions! But, we won’t cover that in this article as we want to stick to free activities in Aruba.

Stop by Natural Bridge to admire how it defies gravity. Although the original Natural Bridge collapsed in 2005, the site still offers dramatic coastal scenery along with a smaller bridge called the “Baby Bridge” that remains intact. It’s a picturesque location for photos and enjoying the rugged coastline.

12. Explore the Ayo Rock Formation

Discover the Ayo Rock Formation, a cluster of large boulders and rocks located in the island’s interior. The site is known for its ancient petroglyphs and offers a unique opportunity to climb and explore while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Kids love the rock formations for the ability to scramble up and down them!

For one, you’ll want to admire the colorful architecture, but you can also visit local markets and experience the heart of Aruba in Oranjestad. Don’t miss out on the I Love Aruba sign, the Renaissance Marketplace, and Fort Zoutman.

20. Ride the Trolley Car in Downtown Oranjestad

Hop on the free trolley car in downtown Oranjestad for a scenic tour of the capital. The trolley runs through the main street, passing by colorful Dutch colonial buildings, shops, and historical landmarks, providing a leisurely way to see the city. It just does a short loop through the city, but it’s a great way to take a free tour of Aruba!

Aruba’s Carnival season, from January to early March, is filled with free parades, music, and celebrations. It’s the BEST time to visit Aruba if you’re interested in the culture of the island. If you’re not sure where to go, take a walk through Palm Beach and you’re sure to find live music! Sometimes these are even outside on the street or in the form of street parties. Aruba is a lively place in the early evenings!

They do not keep any birds or animals in captivity, so you need to bring your patience, and maybe your binoculars!

28. Visit the Gardens at the Butterfly Farm

While there’s an admission fee to enter the Butterfly Farm, the gardens outside are free to enjoy. The lush, tropical environment is a peaceful place to relax and spot butterflies flitting about.

If you choose to go into the Butterfly Farm in Aruba, admission is $19, but your ticket is valid for a week so you can return for free as many times as you’d like during your trip after your initial purchase. With your ticket, you can enjoy a brief tour that provides context and insights about the different butterfly species and their purpose on the island.
