February is one of the most popular months to visit Aruba. The weather is warm, rainfall is usually low, the trade winds keep things comfortable, and Aruba Carnival is in full swing. For many visitors, February offers the classic Aruba vacation: sunny beach days during the day and music, parades and celebrations after dark.

The downside is that February is also peak travel season. Hotels can be more expensive, popular restaurants and activities can fill up, and the island is noticeably busier than it is during much of the year.

If you’re deciding whether February is the right month for your trip, here’s what you can expect.

Is February a Good Time to Visit Aruba?

Yes. February is one of the best months to visit Aruba if you want warm, relatively dry weather and the chance to experience Carnival.

The weather is one of the biggest draws. February averages around 82°F, with about 0.8 inches of rainfall. But the weather isn’t the only reason February stands out.

This is also one of the biggest months of Aruba Carnival, with parades, music competitions, children’s events, street celebrations and other festivities taking place around the island. (January and February are the months with most of the major Carnival events and celebrations.)

If Carnival isn’t your thing, February can still be an excellent month to visit. Just know that you’re traveling during one of Aruba’s busiest periods.

Aruba Weather in February

February is part of Aruba’s drier, cooler part of the year.

Average temperatures are around 82°F, and February has one of the lower average rainfall totals of the year. Aruba’s climate remains warm throughout the year, but temperatures tend to be a little lower between December and March.

For most visitors, this is about as close to ideal beach weather as you can get. Days are warm enough for swimming and relaxing on the beach, while Aruba’s trade winds help keep the heat from feeling overwhelming.

Aruba in February: Carnival Season

For many travelers, Carnival is the biggest reason to visit Aruba in February. Aruba’s Carnival season officially begins in November, but January and February are when most of the major celebrations and parades take place.

Carnival isn’t one single event. It is a season filled with music competitions, children’s events, jump-ups, parades, costumes and celebrations throughout Aruba. You can encounter Carnival events in different parts of the island, including Oranjestad and San Nicolas, as well as other districts.

Aruba’s Grand Carnival Parade

The Grand Carnival Parade in Oranjestad is the biggest parade of Aruba Carnival. It features elaborate costumes, decorated floats, music and thousands of participants and spectators. The parade takes place on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, so the exact date changes every year.

If seeing the Grand Parade is important to you, plan your trip around the event rather than simply choosing any week in February. The parade can also affect traffic and access around Oranjestad, so you’ll want to know the schedule before making other plans that day.

The San Nicolas Grand Carnival Parade

San Nicolas also hosts a major Grand Carnival Parade.

The city has a strong Carnival tradition, and the parade is an important part of the season before the main celebration in Oranjestad. Aruba’s official Carnival information includes both the San Nicolas and Oranjestad Grand Parades among the major events of the season.

If you want to experience more than one side of Carnival, consider spending time in both parts of the island.

Carnival Monday

The day after the Grand Parade in Oranjestad is Carnival Monday, an official holiday in Aruba. This is worth knowing when planning your trip because some businesses may close early or remain closed for the day.

If you’re renting a car, eating out or planning activities around Carnival weekend, check operating hours before assuming everything will follow a normal Monday schedule.

Should You Visit Aruba Specifically for Carnival?

If you enjoy music, dancing, parades and cultural celebrations, absolutely consider it.

Carnival is a very different experience from simply spending a week at a resort. You’re seeing a major part of Aruba’s culture and getting an opportunity to experience the island when local celebrations are at their peak.

If large crowds, loud music and busy streets aren’t your thing, February can still be a great time to visit, but you may want to plan your trip outside the biggest Carnival events.

Aruba in February: Crowds

February is busy. You’re in the middle of Aruba’s winter high season, and Carnival adds another reason for people to visit. The busiest areas can include Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, Oranjestad and San Nicolas, particularly around major Carnival events.

That doesn’t mean the entire island is crowded all the time. Aruba is large enough to get away from the busiest resort areas, and there are plenty of ways to build a quieter vacation. But you should expect more visitors than you would during many of the summer and fall months.

If you’re traveling during Carnival, the biggest events can draw substantial crowds.

Aruba in February: Prices

February is not generally the month to choose if your number-one goal is finding the lowest possible price. Winter is Aruba’s peak travel season, and Carnival can increase demand around particular dates.

Hotels, vacation rentals, rental cars and popular tours can book quickly. That doesn’t mean you can’t find a deal. It simply means I’d shop earlier rather than later if you’re traveling in February.

If your dates are flexible and saving money is more important than Carnival or peak-season weather, compare February with April through November.

Things to Do in Aruba in February

February is a great month for the traditional Aruba vacation. The weather makes it easy to combine beach time with sightseeing, outdoor activities and Carnival events.

Spend a Day at the Beach

February is excellent beach weather. Eagle Beach, Palm Beach, Baby Beach and Aruba’s other beaches are all options depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for.

Because February is busy, popular beaches can fill up. If you want the best chance at a particular spot, especially during busy travel weeks, getting there earlier can make a difference.

Go Snorkeling

The warm water and generally favorable February weather make snorkeling an easy addition to your trip. You can explore from shore at several locations or book a snorkeling excursion if you’d rather have transportation and equipment handled for you.

Take a Sailing or Catamaran Trip

February is also a popular time to get out on the water. A sailing or catamaran trip gives you a different perspective of Aruba and lets you enjoy the trade winds instead of fighting them. Book ahead if you have your heart set on a particular company or departure time.

Explore Arikok National Park

Don’t spend your entire February vacation at the beach. Arikok National Park covers 20% of Aruba and gives you a chance to see the island’s desert-like landscape, caves, natural formations and rugged coastline.

February’s comfortable temperatures make it a good time for exploring, although you’ll still want plenty of water, sunscreen and protection from the sun.

Experience Oranjestad and San Nicolas

February is an especially good month to visit these two towns because Carnival brings them to life. Oranjestad hosts the island’s largest Grand Carnival Parade, while San Nicolas has its own major Carnival celebrations.

Even if you aren’t attending a parade, spending some time in both areas gives you a better sense of Aruba beyond the resort districts.

What to Pack for Aruba in February

Packing for February is pretty straightforward. Think summer clothing, beachwear and sun protection.

I’d bring:

• Lightweight shirts and shorts
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Sandals
• Reef-friendly sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• A hat that can handle the wind
• A reusable water bottle
• A light layer for air-conditioned restaurants
• A beach bag
• After-sun lotion

If you’re attending Carnival, consider what you’ll be comfortable wearing while standing or walking for several hours. (Comfortable shoes matter more than you might expect.)

And remember the wind. A giant floppy sun hat may look great in your vacation photos, but Aruba’s trade winds may have other ideas.

Is Aruba Hot in February?

February is warm, but it is not generally considered one of Aruba’s hottest months. Average temperatures are around 82°F, while the trade winds provide a steady breeze.

For many visitors, this is one of the most comfortable combinations Aruba offers. You’ll still want sunscreen and plenty of water, especially if you’re spending the day outdoors.

Is February Hurricane Season in Aruba?

No. The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30, so February falls outside the official hurricane season.

Aruba is also located outside the main hurricane belt. This is one of the reasons winter is such a popular time to visit Aruba.

The Pros

• Excellent weather. February is warm, relatively dry and comfortable.

• Carnival. This is one of the biggest months of the year for Aruba’s Carnival celebrations.

• Great beach conditions. Warm temperatures and trade winds make outdoor activities appealing.

• Low rainfall. February is one of the drier months of the year.

• Plenty happening. Restaurants, tours and attractions are operating at full capacity during the busy season.

The Cons

• Peak season. February is one of the busiest times of year in Aruba.

• Higher prices. Accommodation and other travel costs can be higher than during the quieter months.

• Carnival crowds. Major parades can bring large crowds and affect traffic.

• Reservations matter. Popular restaurants, rental cars and tours can fill up.

• Carnival isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for a very quiet beach vacation, you’ll need to plan around the biggest events.

Should You Visit Aruba in February?

If you want great weather and don’t mind crowds, February is an excellent choice. And if experiencing Aruba Carnival sounds exciting, February moves even higher on my list.

I’d particularly recommend February to someone who wants to see more than the resort side of Aruba. Carnival gives you an opportunity to experience music, traditions and celebrations that are a big part of life on the island.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t choose February simply because someone told you it’s the “best” month. If you don’t care about Carnival and your priorities are lower prices and fewer visitors, there are other months I’d consider first.

For me, February’s biggest advantage is the combination of excellent weather + Carnival. That’s what makes it stand out.
